In early August of 1945, the world was at war for almost 6 years. August 6th, 1945 the United States dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and three days later dropped another on Nagasaki. This was a significate point in history because there has never been a bomb of this magnitude being use in an urban industrial area. Ultimately the use of the atomic bomb resulted in Japan’s surrender, which aided the allies in drawing closer to ending the war against the Axis Powers. Due to the massive destruction industrially and urbanely the use of the atomic bomb has always been questioned. Overall, there has always been a debate whether or not the act of dropping the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki justifiable due so the fact that it killed so many citizens of Japan. In order to understand this difficult topic, one must look at the subject at hand from two difference perspectives of considering the act of using the atomic bomb unjustifiable and a war crime and claims that the atomi c bomb was a necessary act while fighting since the world was at war. There are several authors that claim that the bombing of was uncalled for and completely unnecessary. Those authors are Hitoshi Nagai, who is one of the most influential Japanese philosophers and in addition, teaches philosophy at Nihon University. Additionally, there is Samuel J. Death Penalty as an Effective Method of Punishment An issue that has continually created tension in todays society is whether the death penalty serves as a justified and valid form of punishment. Whenever the word death penalty comes up, extremists from both sides start yelling out their arguments. One side says deterrence, the other side says theres a potential of executing an innocent man; one says justice, retribution, and punishment; the other side says execution is murder. Crime is an evident part of society, and everyone is aware that something must be done about it. Most people know the threat of crime to their lives, but the question lies in the methods and action in which it should be dealt with. In several parts of†¦show more content†¦To do this, the punishment for crime must be harsh enough to deter potential criminals. Under this mindset, the death penalty makes perfect sense. Here is a punishment that truly makes a criminal pay for his crime, stops the criminal from committing it again, and deters other criminals from committing the same crime. The punishment for murder is getting to be shorter and shorter. A judge could sentence a man to life in prison. That same man could be out of jail with 15 years. How has life in jail become known as ten to fifteen years? If the judge says life with no parole, then the criminal could stay in jail a bit longer, but that would mean the state and its voters would have to take care of the prisoner for twenty to twenty five years. How can we trust the murderers and thieves of our country to a judicial system that will either let them out in ten years or have us take care of them for twenty years, and then let them go? The criminals do not fear the punishment anymore, because they know they will not die. Punishment is meant to give justice to the wrongdoer and to keep him from doing it again. Mamas words Essay I took in a deep breath of the thick air that surrounded me; it had the acidic, after stench, of a burnt match or a bonfire that had gone on for far too long, and suddenly all the memories of last night came flooding back into my confused head. Had it all really happened? Where was T.J? Was T.J. OK? My head rolled over onto my pillow, which was still wet from my tears during the night admit I dont like T.J. but he didnt deserve anything that happened last night wouldnt wish it upon anyonenot even the people I hate the most. I lay silent for a few minutes just thinking. I could here mama and papa talking in hushed voices in the next room. I put my ear against the wall so I could hear well. I shouldnt be too long, Mary, I need to go and see the Averys, we need justice round here, and its come to the point where, we will do anything to get it  Papa would probably put his old tattered cap on now like he always does when he is going out to visit someone.
